We're excited to join our European colleagues at the European Globus Community Forum (EGCF), which is co-located with the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) 2015 conference. The EGCF annual event provides a unique opportunity for Globus users Europe to familiarize themselves with recent developments and to introduce and discuss their work, challenges, solutions, and best practices within a community atmosphere. The event also gives participants the chance to provide feedback on Globus technologies, as well as present any Globus requirements they may have for their research.

CASC (the Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation) is dedicated to advocating the use of the most advanced computing technology to accelerate scientific discovery among its member institutions, which include many of the nation's largest research universities. The themes of the CASC Fall Meeting are HIPAA, Clouds and "After Hardware, What?". Ian Foster will present Globus service for genomics analysis.

The ASHG Annual Meeting is the largest human genetics meeting and exposition in the world. ASHG members and leading scientists from around the world are selected to present their research findings at invited, platform, and poster sessions. ASHG's Annual Meeting also features a trade show floor that offers attendees the opportunity to view state-of-the-art medical and laboratory equipment, products, services, and computer software designed to enhance human genetics research, teaching, and consultation.
It is my pleasure to announce that the user of the month for December 2012 is Kurt LaButti from the Department of Energy's Joint Genome Institute.
Kurt has been in the genomics industry since 2001. He started at what is now the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT working on the human genome. He performed closure on chromosomes 17 and 11. He then transitioned into bioinformatics and assembly analysis, working primarily on fungi and virus genomes. At the Joint Genome Institute, he assembles and analyzes data from the DOE community, sequencing relevant organisms. His group handles microbes, metagenomes, fungi, and other interesting projects.
