Virtual Conference

Steve Tuecke will present "Institutional Repositories in the Cloud" at the NISO virtual conference. Globus will soon be offering data publication and discovery services, in addition to big data transfer and sharing capabilities. Globus data publication will offer:

August 12, 2014 (All day) to August 13, 2014 (All day)

We are excited to sponsor the annual RMACC High Performance Computing Symposium for a third year. We will be presenting a tutorial to introduce researchers and systems administrators at RMACC institutions to Globus services for moving, sharing, and publishing big data. In this tutorial, attendees will learn how to perform fire-and-forget file transfer, sharing, and synchronization between their local machine, campus clusters, regional supercomputers and national cyberinfrastructure using Globus, via both Web and command line interfaces.

Climate data sets are currently measured on a scale of terabytes, and within a few short years are expected to be petabytes in size. This data is produced from sources ranging from supercomputing centers, where large-scale climate modeling and simulations are performed, to satellites that are recording and transferring data constantly. Many climate scientists and data managers struggle with data workflow. Without performance improvements, scientific productivity will suffer.

The Data Intensive Summer School focuses on the skills needed to manage, process and gain insight from large amounts of data. It is targeted at researchers from the physical, biological, economic and social sciences that are beginning to drown in data. It will cover the nuts and bolts of data intensive computing, common tools and software, predictive analytics algorithms, data management and non-relational database models.

Ravi Madduri, Product Manager, Globus and Argonne National Laboratory
June 24, 2014 - 12:00 EDT to June 26, 2014 - 5:00 EDT

Washington, DC

Ravi Madduri of Globus will present a talk on "Building Sustainable Services for Science: Experiences on Building Globus on AWS."

Rachana Ananthakrishnan, Sr. Engagement Manager/Solutions Architect, University of Chicago
June 16, 2014 - 5:00 PDT to June 18, 2014 - 5:00 PDT

Oakland, CA

Rachana Ananthakrishnan from Globus will present a talk and a tutorial at the Joint Facilities User Forum on Data-Intensive Computing. This forum will bring together users and HPC center staff to discuss successes, failures, lessons learned, and the future of data-driven scientific discovery. There will also be a day of practical user training.

Talk: Globus for Data Management

June 6, 2014 | Stuart Martin

On Thursday, June 5th, a new OpenSSL vulnerability (CCS Injection Vulnerability) was announced.  After its announcement, we reviewed the severity and impact to Globus services, partner services and users. Soon thereafter, we posted details in our support forum, with continuing updates as we learn more. Overall, our assessment for the severity of the impact for this issue is low. The forum post does include

We are happy to announce that the Globus user of the month for May 2014 is Robert Edwards, a staff scientist in the Theory Group at Jefferson Lab, a Department of Energy Nuclear Physics experimental facility.

Here he tells us about the work he’s doing, and how Globus helps him do it:
