Internet2 Global Summit 2019
March 5 – 8, 2019 (All Day)
- TBA
At this year's Internet2 Global Summit, Globus will present with speakers from UCSD and ESnet:
- Title: Cyberinfrastructure for Data-Intensive Science (see details or watch the netcast here)
- Date/Time: Thursday, March 7 @ 10:30-11:45 a.m.
- Abstract: At over 100,000 registered users in 56 countries, the research data platform developed by the Globus team at the University of Chicago is indeed global. Many of the more forward looking members of the Internet2 community have made a broad and substantial investment in this platform, applying it in areas well beyond the reliable file transfer service we launched a decade ago. From automating the processing and distribution of instrument data, to democratizing access to diverse data repositories in materials science, climate change, neuroscience, and genomics, the platform is ready to solve the next generation of research data problems. At the same time, a subscription model that was met with skepticism a few years ago now has a proven track record, and is moving the platform steadily towards sustainability -- again, thanks to those few brave institutions that were willing to back their conviction with money. The future looks rosy, but we need your help, and your guidance. In this presentation we will describe the challenges we face and the solutions we propose to ensure that the community’s collective investment in this innovative endeavor continues to yield benefits for all. From product strategy to governance, we hope to initiate a dialogue to explore some of the trickier aspects of taking the global research data platform to the next level.
Internet2's 2019 Global Summit is a community forum for our members and partners from around the world to participate in unprecedented collaboration to discuss today’s needs, challenges and solutions across all Research and Education. The 2019 Internet2 Global Summit will be held at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC, March 5–8, 2019.
